Guys. It’s not 12. It’s 8.5. 11 knows who this is. It’s gotta be the Doctor who ended the time war. The disowned Doctor because he committed the acts that scarred 9 and 10 so deeply. So he’s not really considered a “Doctor” but he is a past incarnation of the Doctor. Make sense? If Hurt was playing 12, then 11 wouldn’t know who this is. But he does.
Also. John Hurt + Matt Smith = John Smith. Not that that’s actually relevant. It’s just a cute something.
